Born in 1952, Olivier Gagnère lives and works in Paris.
After studying law, he chose furniture production, as a self-taught designer. In 1981, he went to Italy in order to work with Ettore Sottsass, in Milano, and with glass masters in Murano. He came back to France after two years of learning and developed his own production. He stood out in 1984 thanks to an exhibition at Marc Lamouric gallery and began to create furniture with Galerie Néotù in 1985.
Projects and creations by Olivier Gagnère are various but they all share respect and attention to materials and craftsmen : china made with Fukagawa manufacturer in Arita, Japan, in 1992, ceramics realized with Atelier Robert Picault, in Vallauris, in 1997, or the numerous collaborations developed with Bernardaud, in Limoges. The decoration of Café Marly, inside Palais du Louvre, in 1994, with the armchairs named after it and glass objects from Murano, brought him fame.
He was elected "Créateur de l’année" during the Salon "Maison et Objet" in Paris, in 1998 and since then carries on making exhibitions, decoration projects, furniture and objects. He took part in "Biennale di Venezia" in 2003 and in the 2009 exhibition in tribute of Pierre Staudenmeyer, founder of the gallery Néotù.
