Japonism, named by critic and collector Philippe Burty in 1872, had a profound influence on French art. From the Impressionists to Art Deco, this assimilation of Japanese culture is pervasive in France. What about today?   Mouvements Modernes invites you to its showroom in the heart of the Jardin du Palais Royal to re-examine this historical cultural proximity between the two countries through the works of ten artists and designers. Woodworking with gouges in Fabien Petiot's furniture, Kigumi assembly in Tim Leclabart's astral lamps, the art of Kintsugi in the cracks of Thomas Lemut's nesting tables, and Constance Guisset's Cosmes lamps, a nod to the fantastical world of Miyazaki, will show us the vitality of this influence in contemporary French design. Two new collaborations with feather artist Nelly Saunier and ceramist Odu will transport us to the elegant lightness of the art of Ikebana. Jérémie Thircuir's porcelain vegetables and Morgane Tschiember's shibari sculptures will also be featured in this exhibition. Two painters: Aurélie Galois and Vanessa Seward, will immerse us in the modesty and sobriety of Japanese portrait art.
