Born in 1979, Fabien Petiot lives and works in Paris.

"Aller voir là-bas si j'y suis" is the designer's motto. Travelling and meeting people feeds his interest in dialogue between various fields of craftsmanship. While Petiot graduated in art history and design from ENSCI-Les Ateliers, it is his collaborations with stonemasons, ceramicists, joiners etc which endlessly fuel his inspiration. He is particularly fond of lights, but also enjoys designing textiles and furniture.
His projects include experiments, set designs, commissions for institutions and bespoke pieces for interior designers. Now narrative, now figurative, Petiot's style prides in mixing expressive materials: bright porcelain, iridescent wicker, glowing stainless steel, veined stoneware, woven wooden slats, polished brass, to name but a few. Thus he combines ornamental elements with technological innovation, traditional skills with a personal touch in his projects.
For Mouvements Modernes, Fabien Petiot designed a couple of lights called «Pli», one floor lamp and one wall light. The slender elegance of these warm-hued lights is a discreet homage to Noguchi and Giacometti, while breaking new ground with the inclusion of an unusual material: black bamboo. Its natural dark colour is meant to contrast with foliage; although interesting it is not used in contemporary design. Black bamboo is here combined with hand-modelled plaster and carved oak to support a folded paper lampshade.
