Born in 1974, Andrea Walsh lives and works in Edinburgh.
Andrea Walsh works fine bone china and glass that she juxtaposes and assembles in a delicate game of balance due to the contrast of different materials.
In her creations, Andrea Walsh seeks to celebrate the shared and symbolic qualities of porcelain and glass, revealing clarity, purity and translucency in forms that range from functional objects to sculptures.
Andrea Walsh graduated from Staffordshire University and Edinburgh College of Art where she becomes familiar with porcelain under SJ Selwood, ceramist.
She participated in several artist residencies, including Wedgwood in Stoke-on-Trent, where she trained for several months with craftsmen, and accessed to the archives of the manufacture, including significant documentation on moldings and ornaments. Andrea eventually creates new forms of containers, using the technical castings of ceramics and glass, the final result of her residence and her research at Wedgwood. Her attention then turned to the box as an object of interpretation of her research. The idea is to find in every item the story behind it, its preciousness and fragility bringing a tactile and sensitive relationship.
